Class info

God is an effective communicator. He has expressed Himself to humanity in oral, written and visual forms. As part of God’s creation, He has also given us the ability to communicate with Himself and with others.

Learning and communicating through language helps children to think more clearly, express themselves more adequately and to communicate more effectively. Clear expressive and effective communication assists in the child’s successful participation in society. Children at our school need to develop a positive attitude towards communicating effectively God’s love to others while striving towards excellence in literacy.

English is the study, use, and enjoyment of the English language and its literature, communicated orally, visually, and in writing, for a range of purposes and audiences and in a variety of text forms. Learning English encompasses learning the language, learning through the language, and learning about the language.
Understanding, using, and creating oral, written, and visual texts of increasing complexity is at the heart of English teaching and learning. By engaging with text-based activities, students become increasingly skilled and sophisticated speakers and listeners, writers and readers, presenters and viewers (NZ Curriculum).

The NZ Curriculum document recognises Listening, Reading, and Viewing, Speaking, Writing, and Presenting as each forming part of the English curriculum. Teachers will ensure that each aspect receives adequate coverage in classroom teaching and learning programmes.
